The Osa Peninsula is located in south-western Costa Rica, in Puntarenas Province, with the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Golfo Dulce to the east. The peninsula was formed geologically by a faulting system that extends north into California. The peninsula is home to at least half of all species living in Costa Rica and harbours 2.5% of the biodiversity of the entire planet in less than a thousandth of a percent of its total surface area.
For casual birders and serious enthusiasts alike, Costa Rica's Osa Peninsula offers some of the best birding on the Pacific coast of Central America.
